🎉Congratulations to Kinfolk Apparel, as they were awarded their trademark for the viral satin-lined hoodies that most have become aware of from seeing the brand on an episode of Shark Tank.

But before we get into it
Hey Village,
It’s Kendra DeAnna The Business Doula here!
Thank you so much for tuning into What’s Glowing on?!
Where I tell you about local events and global news surrounding small businesses and marketing.
Now,Â
A year ago, when Nike dropped a satin-lined hoodie, many people tagged @kinapparel_ saying, "KIN did it first"
Philomena, the founder and CEO of Kin Apparel, said What most people don't know is that years ago, she tried to protect this idea and was told NO by the Patent-Trademark Office. They said it wasn't distinctive enough. They said it was generic.
Meanwhile, more and more brands began selling satin-lined hoodies and profiting from the very category that she and her team pioneered.
Then attorney Jasmin A. Robinson DM'd her and said, "Don't give up. I want to help you."
So they applied to trademark Satin Lined Hoodie.
Got rejected... again.
At that point, she was tired. And was ready to let it go.
But attorney Jasmin wasn't.
She said, "Let's try one more time."
And so they did.
Then her team member Luz gathered years of evidence proving this wasn't just another product; it was a movement they’ve been building since 2020. Valerie made sure Satin Lined Hoodie appeared everywhere: on their products, packaging, website, marketing materials, and more.
Attorney Jasmin then submitted a 30-page response explaining exactly why they deserved the trademark.
And as of July 14, 2026...
THEY WON.
Satin-Lined Hoodie® is officially a registered trademark owned by KIN Apparel.

Philomena says this journey reminded her so much of
Philippians 1:6, which says:
"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the
day of Christ Jesus."
She notes that the verse doesn't say YOU will finish the
work. It says HE will.
She also gives a word of encouragement: “To every entrepreneur, or anyone, hearing "no" right now: please don't quit after the first rejection. Sometimes your breakthrough is hiding behind one more appeal, one more prayer, and one more person who believes in you when you don't believe in yourself.”
So Village,Â
Let this be a lesson to protect your brand, get the Trademark, and be mindful of your team and the people who surround you!
And most importantly, when God gives you a vision, and you follow through, the battle is already won!!
Just don’t give up!
Now, I don’t know everything, but what I do know, I will share it with y’all!
Because y'all are my village, and it takes a village to raise a business!
Stay tuned for the next blog post.✨
