The Business Doula | Marketing Strategist| Social Media Manager
Have you ever heard the phrase,
"It takes a village to raise a baby."?
Well, it is also true that it takes a village to raise a business as well! And just as a Birth Doula assists new parents as they transition into parenthood, I work as a Business Doula to help new business owners build their business babies!
Before we get into how I do that, let's rewind a little bit to where this all began. In 2017 my husband and I realized that I was not at all happy about the job that I was working. Although it was a great job, it was not my passion or purpose. So it was decided that I would quit that job to focus on my music career and would drive for Uber/Lyft to supplement that income. We leased a car on Monday, July 10, 2017 and my last day on the job was Tuesday, July 11, 2017. You wouldn't believe that Saturday, July 15, 2017, I was rear-ended in a 3-car accident on the freeway in the same car we had just leased through Uber. It was devastating and horrible timing.
During this time, I was really struggling to figure out my next move, music wasn't making any money, and I needed to think of something fast after ⚠️(Trigger Warning)⚠️ having a miscarriage, which would have been our first child.
I thought to myself, "Now that I know I can get pregnant, I need to be prepared just in case It happens again!"
So, I Prayed about what to do next, and the Holy Spirit helped ya girl out!
I got the idea to start my business throwing business baby showers! I was "doom scrolling" on the little blue app one night, and saw a meme a friend posted that said "Instead of Baby Showers; let's throw our friends "Business Showers" and gift them with the supplies they need to kick start their business." Now one thing about me, I'm gonna celebrate and make everything I can FUN! I'm also gonna support a small business owner with the absolute quickness! So that was the perfect idea for me to turn into a business. Now, I got the idea to start this business in 2018, but I didn't start really taking it seriously until the end of 2019. And would you believe that by the time I started to gain momentum, the Pande hit. So we were no longer able to have live in-person events, so I did a couple of virtual showers. The problem was, the concept was so new, I didn't want to keep having the showers that way,
So again.. I prayed and asked for guidance.
Soon after I prayed, a friend of mine reached out and asked me if I had ever thought of offering Virtual Assistance services. And I thought, "You know what, that's a fantastic idea. In high school, for my senior project, I volunteered to do clerical work and actually really enjoyed it, I worked as an assistant to a chiropractor, interned for Tyrese Gibson. The path was set for me to do this for my own business. I began offering VA services, but soon realized that business owners were actually looking for a social media manager. So I bega offering SM management services! It was great at that time because small business owners were looking for ways to stay visible while not being able to attend networking & pop-up events. Everyone was online.
And then,
The world opened up and I began losing clients. They were now going back to in-person events again. So you know what I did?
Yep, you guessed it!! I Prayed about what to do next!!
Now this time I got a totally different business idea, but I also got the idea to turn my business into a full marketing agency! Ya'll I was watching "Emily In Paris" on netflix and I was so inspired at all the possibilities we have to promote businesses. My creativity went beyond social media, and it was time to show it!
Things were a little different now though, I was now a mommy to two and had taken a year off to have a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesearean), so I was buidling my business up from scratch.
Now you're probably wondering where The Business Doula comes from....
Well first of all, It's in my nature go full on promotion manager for small business owners, whether I know you personally or not. If I believe in your business baby, you betta believe I'm supporting! Now, as I was rebuilding my business, I was looking for a way to brand my business. I thought about my business, throwing business baby showers, supporting business owners, then I thought about the fact that I had a Doula both times I was pregnant. I was doing for small business owners what birth Doulas were doing for families! It was perfect! I love how Birth Doulas drastically change the way new familes bring in new Life, and I am working to do that through Rise 2 Glow!
